Jesting and Dallying is a humorous piece. Rests, staccatos, two-note slurs clearly represent  its scherzando character. Students have to pay close attention to the note/rest-value, as well as the articulation and dynamic markings in order to play it musically and technically according to the desired character. The performer is also required to accent off-beats in order to create humor and unexpected musical occurances.
