Unexpected harmonies give “Arabian Nights” a unique appeal. The accompaniment consists mostly of broken chords, which have important tenuto markings, and open fifths. Neither should overpower the melody, which contains many unusual accidentals. The melody should remain legato, even when composed of thirds. The extremely quiet dynamic level may be challenging for some pianists. They should strive to produce a solid tone, despite the soft volume.
