Bela Bartok, In Yugoslav Style (MK2)

Bela bartok

Béla Bartók

Written in mixolydian mode, this cheerful piece has a unique sound due to the absence of the leading tone. The accompaniment is extremely simple and consists solely of repeated broken fifths as quarter notes. The right hand, too, is straightforward. Its hand position is built on pentachords and moves position only once. Strong dynamic contrasts during repeated sections as well as a legato touch are important aspects of the piece. Since the texture is so thin, students can easily listen closely to their eighth notes for evenness.
