Rollin certainly captures the excitement associated with bullfighters in “EL Torero.” Virtuosity and drama are the quintessential characters of this work. Students need to have a well-developed sense of rubato while playing this work. A solid technique is also necessary for the frequent triplet and sixteenth-note passages. The left hand sometimes imitates the sound of a classical guitar, requiring the ability to play fast arpeggiated figurations.
